The Skyline Hawks football team got off to a strong start but could not hold on in the 2nd half as they fell to the Strasburg Rams by a final score of 28-3.
The Hawks defense was strong on the first series, sacking the quarterback and forcing a three-and-out.
Skyline started on their own 40 yard line and Chase Tasker began the drive by completing an 11 yard pass to Caleb Reedy. The Hawks then turned the offense over to Ty Clingerman, who had gains of 11, 9 and 13 yards on the next three running plays. After a false start, set up a third and seven from the Strasburg 24 yard line, Caleb Reedy ran the ball twice to pick up a first down at the Rams 16. The drive then stalled and Douglas Cummings kicked a 33 yard field goal to put the Hawks up 3-0 with 5:16 left in the first quarter.
And that would remain the score for the rest of the first half, as both defenses were strong.
In fact, the score did not change until the 6:07 mark of the third quarter, when Chase Hart connected with Stephen Kloosterman for a 10 yard touchdown pass on fourth and nine. Jalen Bray added 3 second half rushing touchdowns to give the Rams their victory margin.
Ty Clingerman lead the Hawks with 17 carries for 66 yards. The Hawks will host the Culpeper Blue Devils on Friday night at 7:00 at Skyline High School.
