- HAWKS: 41
WILLIAM MONROE: 25
Ryan Scott threw for 219 yards and four touchdowns, and Quentin Diggs added 125 yards on the ground as the Hawks led from the start en route to a 41-25 victory over the Dragons at Skyline on Friday night.
It only took 3 offensive snaps for the Hawks to get on the board. After a pair of runs by Diggs gained a first down, Scott connected with Louie Garcia for a 59 yard touchdown, putting Skyline up 7-0 with 10:38 left in the first quarter.
William Monroe could not get anything going on their first series, as a holding and two false starts had the Dragons going in the wrong direction. They elected to quick kick by punting on third and 26.
Skyline moved down the field again on their next drive, behind a 10 yard run by Garcia, a 21 yard screen pass to Diggs, and a pair of big runs by Tucker Fortney. Scott finished the drive off with a 23 yard touchdown pass to Garcia, and the Hawks led 14-0 with 7:02 still left in the first quarter.
The Skyline defense stepped up big on the next possession. They stopped Jaekwon Wayne for a 3 yard loss on first down, forced a holding to back the Dragons up further on 2nd down, and then on 3rd down Matt Rutherford sacked Dragon quarterback Alex Kinsey. On fourth down, the snap went over the punter's head, and when he tried to pick it up and punt it near the goal line, he whiffed and Parker Holmes recovered it for a touchdown. That score put Skyline up 21-0 with 4:28 left in the first quarter.
William Monroe did toughen up after that, holding the Hawks without another point until midway through the 3rd quarter. In the meantime, the Dragons had put up 10 points on a touchdown pass from Kinsey to James Collins and 31 yard field goal by Josue Rivas-Bonilla.
Skyline extended the lead to 28-10 on a 25 yard pass from Scott to Trenton King with 4:55 left in the third quarter.
But again, the Dragons narrowed the lead, with Kinsey scoring first on a 39 yard keeper, and then finding Jordan Gray on a 29 yard pass to narrow the Skyline lead to 28-25 with 11:52 left in the game.
A 5 yard touchdown pass from Scott to King, and a 4 yard touchdown run from Fortney sealed the victory for the Hawks.
The Hawks improve to 4-4 on the year and travel to Brentsville on Friday.
