WARREN COUNTY: 22
The Skyline Hawks jumped out to an early lead over crosstown rival Warren County, but could not hold on in the end as they fell to the Wildcats by a final score of 22-21.
After receiving the opening kickoff, the Hawks drove methodically down the field behind the running of Quentin Diggs, who had 31 yards rushing and six yards receiving on the drive. Ryan Scott capped off the drive with a 36 yard touchdown run. The Hawks chose to go for two, and converted on another run by Diggs to go up 8-0 with 7:41 left in the first quarter.
Warren County had a scoring threat early in the 2nd quarter, but Skyline's defense was able to hold on a 4th and goal from the one to force a turnover-on-downs.
The Hawks then traveled 99 yards on their next possession, behind seven rushes for 28 yards by Diggs and 2 receptions for 43 yards by Louie Garcia. Diggs finished off the drive with a one yard run to put Skyline up 14-0 with 3:08 left in the half.
Warren County got on the scoreboard midway through the 3rd quarter on a 16 yard run by Bryce Post to cut the Skyline lead to 14-7.
Diggs got the Hawks back in the end zone on the next possession, rushing 5 times for 49 yards, including a 3 yard touchdown run, putting Skyline up 21-7 with 3:05 left in the 3rd quarter.
But the big lead was short-lived, as three plays later, Ronald Dodson ran it in from 1 yard out, after a 74 yard run on the preceding play. This made it 21-14 with 1:57 left in the third quarter.
Both teams were able to move the ball, but were not able to put points on the board until Jacob Good ran it in from 5 yards out with 52 seconds remaining. Dodson ran in the conversion attempt to give Warren County the 22-21 victory.
The Hawks will get another chance at the Wildcats this Friday night in the playoffs at Warren County High School at 7:00.
